In North America, many business are sticking with Windows XP or Linux to run their daily affairs. With the pure crap that Microsoft produces these days (Vista) the British government IT authority issues a a report advising schools in their country not to upgrade to Windows Vista or Office 2007. Instead, the government is pushing for open source products such as OpenOffice. These upgrades will reduce the efficiency of the computers, cost a fortune to do, and over all cause more grief for the students than is required. I mean, they are in school so they need a BIT of grief, but in an IT class they should be encouraged to explore and use the PC to it’s full potential.
Some articles I found have gone so far to say that Vista and Office 2007 have been BANNED from British schools.
It’s really nice to see that people are leaning more and more towards open source, and away from the money pit of software. Especially software that doesn’t do what you want. Small example? Okay! How about Vista requesting a security code or giving a security pop up every time you want to do something? Imagine what you do in a day and how annoying that would be. And to think, you only had to pay $500!
