After June 30th, XP will no longer be available in OEM to PC retailers. Notice if you go to any computer store, they don’t have XP anymore. It’s all shitty Vista. Everywhere. The only way to obtain an OEM copy is buy a new PC and ask for OEM XP Pro, or when you buy online make sure you can select OEM as an option.

So, what the hell are we suppose to do? You can still get OEM XP Pro… if you buy 25 PC’s or more in what Microsoft calls their ‘System Builders Licence’.

If you buy fewer than 25 PCs in an order, the OEM can install only Vista. You can still get XP Pro on those PCs, though, if they came with Vista Business or Ultimate. Those two Vista versions include the “downgrade rights” that let you apply the Vista license to your XP Pro installation. You can use your existing XP Pro install discs or get an XP “downgrade” disc from the PC maker (if it wants to supply it). Remember that “downgrade rights” are not available in OEM licenses for other versions of Vista, and they do not let you install XP Home.

Sounds like by 2009, we will be forced to run Vista. I remember when XP came out, it was bad. But with time issues were addressed, and programs and games ran with it swimmingly. However, Vista is a graphic overhauled, security filled, relentless shit hole of a product and I will NOT run it. I may have to jump on the Ubuntu band wagon. However, if I did have to install it, I would get my buddy to help me. He runs his and it works with anything, however he said he used a balls load of tweaks from around the web.

  2. Phew. I have my trusty copy of Win XP which I’ll keep upgrading till the cows come home.

I’m thinking of trying Vista on my work tablet but not sure if I should bother.

  4. Haha, same.

Regardless of what people say, XP hasn’t been too bad for me.

Mind you, I am considering a Mac. Admittedly the interface on OSX is fucking awesome.

  5. When XP first came out, it had bugs too. I remember people on IRC when we all had Windows 2000, bashing XP and stuff. But its NOTHING compared to how bad the Vista launch was. And STILL no Service Packs.

XP works because its still simple, but has the performance needed for today. Vista is just a graphic overhauled version with more bugs than Britney Spears vagina.
