It’s always a treat watching Joaquin Phoenix act. A very calm and smooth style, which can be bended and shaped into a fearful character.
We Own the Night is about a family that ends up suffering a violent fallout from the Russian mafia. Two brothers unite to do what is right. I really enjoyed the acting in this movie, and I feel the casting was great. Again another movie I never said ‘Holy crap bad acting’ and fast forwarded parts. I’ve never seen anything from James Gray before, but I have to say I did like it. Great directing here.
Bobby Green (Phoenix), a night club manager has to make a choice in his life sooner or later. When you own a big club in New York, two things can happen. One, you get confronted by drug dealers to put their product on the market, and give you a big cash bonus. Or, the Police get to you first to ‘keep an eye on things’ AKA an informant. How do you think Police and the state of Nevada took Las Vegas from the mob?
Joseph (Wahlberg) is Bobby’s brother, who is a detective for the New York Police Department. Family feuds start this movie strong, and clearly its a case of two completely different worlds.
There’s two things I know. One, never piss off a woman. And two, never fuck with Russians. lol.
I found this movie enjoyable, no bad remarks or anything to complain about.
