Have you heard about WD5, the asteroid that was going to hit Mars on Jan 30? I’m sure you have. But you probably haven’t heard of asteroid TU24 until very recently. TU24 is approximately 6-12x larger and headed our way. It’s the largest potentially hazardous asteroid for the next 19 years. Why haven’t you heard about this from the mainstream media? Surely there’s no conspiracy about a big rock?

This asteroid will pass Earth from 560,000 kilometers away, not interfering with Earth at all. So what’s the big deal? All objects in our galaxy spin around the center (which is believed to be a black hole). So for the next 19 years, we have to monitor it till it gets so far away it won’t bother us again.

Coincidence: WD5 will pass Mars at roughly the same time. This one is a little closer to Mars and will make a nice light show for us here on Earth (January 30th) as it interferes with the electromagnetic waves of the red planet.

TU24 Threat Level (Probability of Impact): 0.0%

  2. Well, I’m glad they at least saw this one coming. I’m afraid of the ones we don’t know about until it’s too late.

  3. Phew, close one.

It still baffles me that one day we might wake up and see a second sun, and well, that’ll be it. For all of us.

  4. In 2012 an asteroid comes into view that is visible with the naked eye.

    Eek!

  5. What, which one in 2012? Is this another 2012 conspiracy theory? :)

Also, it’s tricky to decide if you should inform the public of a collision or not.

I was just watching a documentary about the aftermath of a reasonable size comet hitting our planet.

In short… We would be fucked. Nuclear weapons wouldn’t be able to change its path. The doco went into details of what happens after it hits us.

It included the severe heat, fallout and even the ice age that is caused by the lack of sun on the planet’s surface due to a cloud of debris.

  6. Vegetation and things would die yes, but did you know…

The sun is so hot, that if it all of a sudden ’shut off’ tomorrow, it would still heat Earth for millions and millions of years? Sure there is a big factor for light but, you would still feel the heat.
